I emailed that asshat fuckjaw moran Paul Sullivan and asked him what the hell was going on with Dubois not starting tonight.
I asked nicely. ;D

Ice coughs up a 3-run HR in the first, and now it's absolutely POURING rain down.

That was a meatball he threw to Piazza; this staff throws way too many fastballs down the middle when they are ahead in the count.
Get Rothschild on that train outta town also.

I can't even get worked up about Ice's performance, he shouldn't even be out there. Stupid, stupid idea. And I personally like Barrett, but I just don't know how well he works with the younger pitchers, and I think his game calling is suspect.
We're now in the second rain delay ... I'm not even sure how many pitches Ice has thrown, but he was unlikely to go 5 even if the weather was good. He's getting pounded, he's not stretched out, now he's sitting through rain delay #2 -- he might not last through 3 now.
Cubs are not going to score 4 runs today because we only have 3 combined hitters in the entire lineup.
DLee = 1.5 hitters Aramis = .5 Burnitz = .5 everyone else out there together = .5
Plus, Dusty will try hit-and-runs which NEVER work and/or bunt people over while behind by 4 runs, which further decreases any likelihood of success.
Just forfeit the game.
I will seriously be beside myself with rage if another pitcher gets hurt tonight due to mismanagement.

I'm sorry I keep ranting about this.
It's just infuriating me to see Dubois getting the Bellhorn treatment all over again, and Dusty and everyone else involved in this stupidity needs to be run out of town before they destroy what's left of the organization.

That was a meatball he threw to Piazza It's funny; I was listening on the way home, and Santo was talking about how he didn't think Piazza could catch any of Bench's numbers and THERES A DRIVE and all of a sudden, Santo is eating his words. You can tell the season is going wrong; even Hughes sounds somewhat disgusted.

Oh, and I can't fucking believe how many he let Zambrano throw. Criminal.
I haven't seen whether or not this is the CW or not... but damn. I don't care what sort of rep he's got as a workhorse, how much he wanted the game, or how stretched thin the pen is. You've got too many injuries in the staff already, you just don't let a guy air it out 135 (?) times in the first week of May.

I'm too tired to get riled up again, and I'm not going to characterize anyone else's stance on pitch counts. I was really upset about some famous incidents in 03, and I do blame Prior's injuries in particular on being overpitched in 03.
That said, I think the game conditions are more important than pitch counts per se. However many pitches Ice throws tonight, it's too many. I didn't have a problem with Z going the distance in that game for a variety of reasons, among them that Z is getting an extra day of rest before his next start (hence Ice being thrown to the wolves tonight). He should also be on a short leash and a pitch count next time out, but who knows what will actually happen.
Z was overthrowing in the 9th, though, and that's a concern.

Seems to me like the difference in game conditions is worth maybe an extra 5-10 pitches, tops.
135 is still beyond risky at this point, I think.

Understood.
You have to balance that risk vs. the risk of Zambrano tearing off Dempster's arm and beating him to death with it if he had blown the save.
I'm only partly joking about that possibility.

I wish Bellhorn would get the Bellhorn treatment in Boston

I remember Bellhorn before Bellhorn hemped out.
Back then, we thought his leaving the top two jersey buttons unbuttoned was a bit ... unkempt.

Prior used to say stuff like that, too (minus the God references).
He doesn't anymore. Dusty doesn't need encouragement.
